The Truth About Aluminium Chlorohydrate – Safe, Smart Sweat Control
No need to sweat about the science – aluminium chlorohydrate is a tried-and-tested antiperspirant ingredient that helps keep you dry and fresh.
It may sound like a bit of a tongue-twister, but aluminium is actually one of the earth’s most common elements – found in soil, water, and even many foods. Here’s how it works, why it’s safe, and why we’ve chosen it for our deodorant.
What Is Aluminium Chlorohydrate?
A simple salt, not a scary chemical. Aluminium chlorohydrate is just an “aluminium salt” – a type of mineral that dissolves in water. It’s derived from aluminium, which is abundant on Earth and part of our everyday lives.
Why is Aluminium Chlorohydrate used in Deodorant and Antiperspirant formulations.
Forms sweat-blocking plugs. When you apply our antiperspirant, aluminium chlorohydrate dissolves in the tiny amount of moisture on your skin. It then forms a microscopic gel inside your sweat ducts – a temporary “plug” that slows perspiration so you stay dry.
Helps keep odour at bay. As well as controlling sweat, aluminium chlorohydrate has gentle antimicrobial properties. This helps reduce the bacteria that cause body odour – so you’re fresher for longer.
Common Concerns – Let’s Bust Those Myths
There’s a lot of chatter and fear mongering online about aluminium in deodorants. Let’s sort the fact from the fiction:
Myth: It causes breast cancer or Alzheimer’s.
Fact: No reputable study has shown this. The American Cancer Society says there is “no scientific evidence that using antiperspirants causes or worsens breast cancer”. Alzheimer’s experts and the EU’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety have also found no link between everyday aluminium exposure (like deodorants) and neurological diseases.
Myth: Blocking sweat stops detox.
Fact: Sweating’s main job is to cool you down – not to flush out toxins. Around 95% of toxins are processed by the liver and kidneys. Only about 1% of your sweat comes from your underarms, so using an antiperspirant won’t “trap” anything harmful – it simply keeps you drier.
Myth: Your skin absorbs a lot of aluminium.
Fact: Skin absorption is extremely low – studies show only around 0.01–0.06% of applied aluminium penetrates the skin. Most stays on the surface until it’s washed away.
The Bottom Line
Decades of research – and the approval of leading health bodies – agree: everyday antiperspirant use is safe. We rely on science, not fear, which is why we happily use aluminium chlorohydrate knowing it’s well-tested and well-regulated.
It’s the ingredient that really stands between you and sweaty moments. We’re proud of what our deodorant does, and we stand by its safety.
Stay fresh and fearless – we’ve got you covered.
