Self Care September

We’re slipping away from the dreamy chaos of summer and easing back into our daily routines. Before you can say ‘pumpkin spice latte’, we’ll be accompanied by cool, crisp afternoons and frosty evenings.

That’s right, it’s almost time to go out of your way to step on an extra crunchy leaf, to savour the feeling of being inside while the rain patters on your window, and to curl up with that page-turner you haven’t found time to look at in ages (despite taking it everywhere with you).

Self Care September is upon us, and we’re here to help you make the most of it.

Content in the bath

A bath is the perfect opportunity for some soothing self care – it’s a great excuse to get some time to yourself and relieve built up tension. Slip in some of our blöta Bath Salts infused with rose petals and rosemary, or choose from our selection box of fräsa Bath Fizzers (depending on whether you’re a still or sparkling kind of bather), for an aromatic, sensory experience.

Pairing your bath with some good quality content gives your mind a chance to unwind as your body does. Slip on some music, a podcast, or even try a guided meditation. Just something that requires you to simply listen and breathe for a while.

Alan Watts recordings on YouTube are a particularly calming favourite.

Get a hobby

When we’re busy, many of us put our extra curricular dreams on the back burner, dismissing them as unimportant in the face of daily chores and responsibilities. But the little things that we love are what make us happy. Now things are settling down a bit, make time for playing that musical instrument, learning that language, or whittling a few spoons. If you’re a fan of outdoor hobby’s, don’t forget to pop some sun cream on – sneaky UV rays can get you even in the colder months. Our lightweight SPF50 sun cream is dermatologist approved and will keep you protected.

Whatever you want to do, put time aside for it this autumn – you’ll feel better for it.

Pamper sesh

Well you definitely saw this one coming didn’t ya. A little home pamper sesh goes a long way towards maintaining your autumnal sanity. It doesn’t have to be the whole nine yards – just like 6 yards or so of peace and tranquillity.

Start with our kÿra Gentle Face Wash. Let lavender, aloe vera and eucalyptus cleanse and soothe, then apply our yellow älska Clay Mask, made from 100% french clay. Mix the mask with our brightening essens Botanical Water for an extra calming boost. Sit back and relax for a while as the magic takes effect. Pick up a book, drink some tea – for 15 minutes at least, that’s all you need to do. When the mask is dry, rinse off, and massage a few drops of our super nourishing, antioxidant rich botanisk – Acai Berry Oil into your complexion, before moisturising with our fragrance free, hypoallergenic pür Gentle Moisturiser.

Finally, bask in your own beautiful glow

Sleep well

Getting a good night’s sleep is incredibly important for your health, as stated by sleep expert Matthew Walker, but for many of us it can be tricky to slip into a soothing slumber. Here are a few tips that’ll set you on the yellow brick road to dreamland.

Have a bath. We obviously love baths, as you might have guessed. As well as generally soothing your soul, having a bath about 90 minutes before bed is a great way to lower your body’s core temperature, signalling that it’s time to sleep.

Moisturise. Taking the time to moisturise before bed is a miniature self care treat that your body and mind will appreciate. Our öljy Relax + Unwind Dry Oil, infused with lavender, chamomile and geranium, will encourage a feeling of peace before bed.

Try our sömn Relaxing Sleep Mist. Lavender, chamomile and ylang ylang will lull your mind into a tranquil slumber. Simply spray a little on your pillow before you get into bed.

Put your phone away. It’s way too easy to get trapped in the blue-lit infinite reels of instagram. Try and put your phone aside around half an hour before you go to bed, maybe replace it with reading a book, or listen to a podcast or audiobook while in bed instead.

Exercise

So many people in the UK are susceptible to Seasonal Affective Disorder, (apparently unironically known as SAD) which can lead to us feeling down in the colder, darker months. Regular exercise is a great way to combat this.

Around 20 minutes a day of regular exercise can be super helpful, whether it’s a quick dip at your local pool, lifting weights, going for a jog or even a bit of yoga. Once you’re done, soothe and relieve tired muscles with our sval Soothing Skin Cooler body wash bar.

Take care of yourself, love grüum.
